Energizing Communities Collective wins Generosity of Spirit Award

Pembina and The Energizing Communities Collective Receive Generosity of Spirit Award for Raising $4 Million to Support Classroom Champions Across Western Canada

The Energizing Communities Collective - a dynamic collaboration of 23 energy companies - is making a lasting impact on young people across Western Canada. By joining forces to support Classroom Champions, a nonprofit organization that pairs professional athletes with students, the Collective is helping to foster social, emotional, and academic growth. The mentorship program is especially focused on reaching underserved, rural, and Indigenous communities in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

Thanks to the support of the Collective, Classroom Champions has seen amazing growth including funding for 87 schools, the enrolment of 380 teachers, 31 Indigenous communities signed up for customized programs, and almost 10,000 students participating. These programs involve over 300 Olympic, Paralympic, university, and professional athletes as mentors to facilitate a powerful, engaging and effective social and emotional learning curriculum to predominantly underserved, rural, and Indigenous communities.

The Generosity of Spirit Award was presented to the Collective in recognition of the $4 million raised over the past two years to support Classroom Champions. A celebratory luncheon with all Association of Fundraising Professionals award winners was held on November 15, 2024, acknowledging this significant achievement.

This recognition is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our team and partners in the Energizing Communities Collective. Together we have been able to make a significant impact on the lives of students across Western Canada. The Collective's funding will provide greater access to programming for schools to participate, making communities safer, more inclusive and better connected.
